This research paper explores the impact of social media-based interventions on adolescent reproductive health education, acknowledging the digital residency of today's youth. Utilizing a Solomon Four Group Design, the study assesses the efficacy of tailored interventions on various digital platforms, emphasizing the value, impact, and relevance of innovative educational approaches, particularly those employed by social media. The paper highlights adolescents' pervasive presence on social media, including platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook as integral components of their online experiences. Leveraging these platforms for health education is considered crucial, aligning with adolescents' digital behaviors and preferences. Ethical challenges in the digital health domain are discussed, underscoring the importance of privacy, consent, and responsible content creation. To tailor interventions effectively, the research explores platform-specific preferences, recognizing the diverse usage patterns among adolescents. The paper concludes with a comprehensive analysis of the intervention's impact, revealing significant improvements in reproductive health knowledge among participants exposed to social media-based education. In essence, the paper advocates for the integration of health education into the digital spaces where adolescents naturally reside, recognizing the transformative potential of social media in enhancing reproductive health knowledge.Cette étude examine l'impact des interventions en santé reproductive pour les adolescents basées sur les médias sociaux, tenant compte de la résidence numérique de la jeunesse d'aujourd'hui. En utilisant un modèle de conception à quatre groupes de Solomon, l'étude évalue l'efficacité des interventions personnalisées sur différentes plateformes numériques, mettant l'accent sur la valeur, l'impact et la pertinence des approches pédagogiques innovantes, en particulier celles utilisées par les médias sociaux. Le document met en évidence la présence omniprésente des adolescents sur les médias sociaux, y compris des plateformes telles qu'Instagram, Twitter et Facebook, en tant que composants intégraux de leurs expériences en ligne. OBJECTIVE: Given the aggressive marketing of foods and beverages to teenagers on digital platforms, and the paucity of research documenting teen engagement with food marketing and its persuasive content, the objective of this study is to examine what teenagers see as teen-targeted food marketing on four popular digital platforms and to provide insight into the persuasive power of that marketing. DESIGN: This is an exploratory, participatory research study, in which teenagers used a special mobile app to capture all teen-targeted food and beverage marketing they saw on digital media for 7 d. For each ad, participants identified the brand, product and specific appeals that made it teen-targeted, as well as the platform on which it was found. SETTING: Online (digital media) with teenagers in Canada. PARTICIPANTS: Two hundred and seventy-eight teenagers, aged 13-17 years, were participated. Most participants were girls (63 %) and older teenagers (58 % aged 16-17 years). RESULTS: Participants captured 1392 teen-targeted food advertisements from Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube. The greatest number of food marketing examples came from Instagram (46 %) (with no difference across genders or age), while beverages (28·7 %), fast food (25·1 %) and candy/chocolate were the top categories advertised. When it comes to persuasive power, visual style was the top choice across all platforms and participants, with other top techniques (special offer, theme and humour), ranking differently, depending on age, gender and platform. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides insight into the nature of digital food marketing and its persuasive power for teenagers, highlighting considerations of selection and salience when it comes to examining food marketing and monitoring.

OBJECTIVE: Our aim in this study was to examine the potential impact of a 3-pronged digital health pilot intervention (TRIFECTA) on diabetes distress and depressive symptoms among adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in British Columbia. METHODS: We recruited 60 adults with T1D (mean age 38.9±15.1 years, 75% female, 77% Caucasian) who participated in the 6-month pilot intervention involving 3 digital health platforms: monthly, provider-led, group-based sessions over Zoom (virtual huddles); a WhatsApp peer texting group; and a web-based "Ask-the-expert" portal. Assessments were conducted at baseline and 6 months and measured diabetes distress (T1D Diabetes Distress Scale), depressive symptoms (9-item Personal Health Questionnaire), and TRIFECTA engagement metrics. RESULTS: Participation in TRIFECTA was associated with significant reductions in Overall Distress (p=0.011) and 4 distress subscales: Powerlessness (p=0.006), Management Distress (p=0.001), Hypoglycemia Distress (p=0.029), and Eating Distress (p<0.001). A higher number of virtual huddles attended predicted lower Overall Distress (p=0.019) and Family/Friends Distress (p=0.023). A higher number of "Ask-the-expert" posts viewed predicted lower Overall Distress (p=0.046), whereas a higher number of WhatsApp messages posted predicted lower Management Distress (p=0.006). Furthermore, engagement in all 3 metrics was a predictor for lower Negative Social Perceptions Distress (p<0.05). No associations were seen in other distress subscales or for depressive symptoms. CONCLUSIONS: Participation in TRIFECTA was linked to reduced diabetes distress levels, but not depressive symptoms, in a platform-dependent manner. This study provides promising pilot data for a subsequent large-scale and fully powered randomized controlled trial.

Recent studies have acknowledged the contribution of digital platforms to entrepreneurial activity. However, little has been discovered regarding the way digital platforms impact new start-ups' performance and how strategy affects this relationship. This study investigated this phenomenon using a structural equation model based on entrepreneurial bricolage and environmental strategy performance theory. The current findings indicate that broader market outreach, cost-effectiveness, and network effect produce a favorable, direct, and substantial effect on new startup performance. Furthermore, strategy moderates the effects of broader market outreach, network effect, and cost-effectiveness on new startup performance. Furthermore, strategy moderates the impact of broader market outreach, network effect, and cost-effectiveness on new startup performance. The Chinese government in particular, and governments of various emerging nations generally, must pay close attention to the results of this research to design policies that will not only lengthen the lifespan of small businesses but also promote rapid expansion as well as innovation of digital start-ups.

Introduction: Late presentation of multiple myeloma (MM) heightens the risk of complication risks, including end-organ damage. This study aimed to: 1) detail the diagnostic journey of MM patients, encompassing symptoms, initial diagnoses, and healthcare professionals met; 2) establish the median duration from symptom onset to MM diagnosis; and 3) examine factors linked to timely MM diagnosis within 12 weeks. Methods: A total of 300 adults self-reporting MM were analysed from the Rare and Undiagnosed Diseases cohort Study (RUDY). The RUDY study is a web-based platform, where participants provide dynamic consent and self-report their MM diagnosis and information about their diagnostic journey. This includes the estimated date of initial potential first symptoms, descriptions of these symptoms, the healthcare professionals they consulted, and other diagnoses received before the MM diagnosis. Descriptive statistics, combinatorial analyses and logistic regression analyses were used to describe and examine the diagnostic journey of individuals with MM. Results: Overall, 52% of the participants reported other diagnoses before MM diagnosis, with musculoskeletal disorders (47.8%), such as osteoporosis, costochondritis, or muscle strains, being the most common. The most prevalent initial reported symptom was back pain/vertebral fractures (47%), followed by chest/shoulder pain, including rib pain and fractures (20%), and fatigue/tiredness (19.7%). 40% of participants were diagnosed by direct referral from primary care to haematology without seeing other healthcare professionals whilst 60% consulted additional specialists before diagnosis. The median time from symptom onset to MM diagnosis was 4 months (IQR 2-10 months, range 0-172). Seeing an Allied Healthcare Professional such as a physiotherapist, chiropractor or an osteopath (OR = 0.25, 95% CI [0.12, 0.47], p <0.001), experiencing infection symptoms (OR = 0.32, 95% CI [0.13, 0.76], p = 0.013), and having chest or shoulder pain (OR = 0.45, 95% CI [0.23, 0.86], p = 0.020) were associated with a lower likelihood of being diagnosed with MM within 12 weeks. Older age (OR = 1.04, 95% CI [1.02, 1.07], p = 0.001) was associated with a higher likelihood of diagnosis within 12 weeks. Discussion: Developing resources for allied health professionals may improve early recognition of MM.

Background: We are currently undergoing a profound process of digital transformation that has favoured the development and use of apps in multiple facets of people's daily lives. In the fitness industry, this situation has facilitated the control of exercise and the maintenance of healthier lifestyles. However, it is not known how the perceived quality and importance of fitness apps vary for users based on gender and age, which is the objective of this study conducted among users of fitness centres. Methods: By means of a convenience sample, 321 users from different centres of the boutique fitness chain Sano Centre (238 females and 83 males) took part in the study. They answered the 16 items of the MARS scale, distributed in four dimensions, in terms of importance and perceived quality. The existence of significant differences was analysed using non-parametrical statistics such as the U-Mann-Whitney (gender) and the H-Kruskal-Wallis (age). In addition, a cluster analysis, combining hierarchical and non-hierarchical methods, was analysed considering as a dependent variable the level of recommendation of fitness apps. Results: Considering gender, in importance-performance analysis (IPA), credibility was the most important attribute for females and quality of information for males. In the case of age, credibility was the most important attribute in all the ranges. The cluster analysis established two groups (high and low recommendations of the fitness app). In importance, the first group scored better on all factors except entertainment and interest. In valuation, the scores were lower than on importance, especially in the low recommendation group. Conclusion: Regarding usage behaviour, credibility is the factor to which users attach the highest importance and rating, regardless of gender and age. The main demand focuses on improving the gestural design and visual appeal, which will facilitate a better user experience.

The agricultural sector in Kenya has witnessed a proliferation of marketing platforms in recent years. However, there has been a noticeable reluctance among farmers to adopt and utilize these platforms for marketing their produce. In light of this, the present study aimed to identify the factors influencing access to and utilization of agricultural marketing platforms. Specifically, the study focused on M-shamba as a representative local marketing platform. A sample of 375 potato farmers from Nakuru county participated in the study, responding to semi-structured questionnaires administered through the survey CTO platform. Descriptive statistics and the Heckprobit model were employed for data analysis. The Heckprobit model encompassed both a selection equation and an outcome equation. The results obtained from the selection equation of the Heckprobit model revealed that factors such as age, off-farm income, farm income, years of potato farming, and access to extension services significantly increased the likelihood of accessing M-shamba. Furthermore, the outcome equation indicated that age, gender of the marketing decision maker, household size, farm income, ranking of potato farming as the primary enterprise, and years of potato farming significantly influenced the utilization of M-shamba in potato marketing. Based on the findings, the study suggests that stakeholders involved in the development of digital marketing platforms should prioritize extensive training and knowledge dissemination, particularly targeting older farmers, to facilitate enhanced access and utilization of such platforms. These efforts will contribute to the promotion of efficient digital marketing practices in the agricultural sector.

OBJECTIVES: Interactive scenario-based learning (SBL) cases were developed using the SoftChalk platform to deliver content about patients' barriers to accessing healthcare and patient management strategies connecting oral to systemic health. The interactive cases were designed to engage the digital-savvy learners, meet them where they are by leveling up, and seek their feedback to determine flipped (FC) or modified flipped classroom (MFC) content delivery approaches. METHODS: Health professions students completed interactive SBL cases (Phase-I) using either FC as assigning content outside of class time preparation or MFC as allocating time at the beginning of the class deliveries, and a 12-item post-completion survey. The senior dental student cohort (Phase-II) completed an anonymous Qualtrics survey that assessed their confidence leading to clinical competence two years after the interactive SBL case deliveries. The final survey (Phase-III) of first-year dental students evaluated the improved interactive scenario-based cases post modifications. [Corrections added on 03 October 2023: After first online publication the first sentence of methods section has been updated.] RESULTS: No significant differences existed between the FC and MFC content delivery scores; however, learners preferred the structured time allotted in the MFC approach as a learning style for participants (N=989). The overall means percent score was 93.2% (n = 398) for FC and 96.5% (n = 591) for MFC. Thematic analysis of written responses indicated that learners felt the vignettes were relevant, thought-provoking, incorporated decision-making, and provided feedback. Four themes about strengths emerged as engaging, interactive, relevant, and critical. Design and technological challenges emerged as interactive SBL improvements. A follow-up report (74/103, 2021) revealed that 48% of senior dental students surveyed recollected the SBL cases when they delivered preventive, patient-centered dental services as juniors and seniors. They also recalled that the interactive cases prepared them for clinical success. The Final comments (2022) did not commend any significant improvements. CONCLUSION: Interactive scenario-based approaches nurture active learning and critical thinking. The educator can engage learners by incorporating teaching modalities as SBL cases to enhance their knowledge and create educational environments by meeting learners where they are. Learners can be valuable partners as educators define their instructional strategies to be equitable and student-centered. Combining data-sharing models and algorithm technologies has led to new data flow structures and usage patterns. In this context, the presentation time of shared low-sensitivity information across platforms has become a crucial factor that affects user perception and privacy-regulation behavior. However, previous studies have not conducted an in-depth exploration of this issue. Based on privacy process theory, this study discusses the impact and potential mechanism of the presentation time (immediate or delayed) of shared low-sensitivity information across platforms on privacy-regulation behavior. Through a pre-study and two online survey experimental studies, which included 379 participants in total, we verified that the immediate information presentation time has a significantly higher impact on online vigilance and privacy-regulation behavior than the delayed condition, ßdirect = 0.5960, 95% CI 0.2402 to 0.9518; ßindirect = 0.1765, 95% CI 0.0326 to 0.3397, and users' perceived control as the moderating role influences online vigilance and privacy-regulation behaviors (preventive or corrective), ßpreventive = -0.0562, 95% CI -0.1435 to -0.0063; ßcorrective = -0.0581, 95% CI -0.1402 to -0.0065. Based on these results, we suggest that the presentation time of using shared low-sensitivity information across platforms should be concerned by companies' recommendation algorithms to reduce users' negative perceptions and privacy behaviors and improve user experience.

Scientific research is growingly increasingly reliant on "microwork" or "crowdsourcing" provided by digital platforms to collect new data. Digital platforms connect clients and workers, charging a fee for an algorithmically managed workflow based on Terms of Service agreements. Although these platforms offer a way to make a living or complement other sources of income, microworkers lack fundamental labor rights and basic safe working conditions, especially in the Global South. We ask how researchers and research institutions address the ethical issues involved in considering microworkers as "human participants." We argue that current scientific research fails to treat microworkers in the same way as in-person human participants, producing de facto a double morality: one applied to people with rights acknowledged by states and international bodies (e.g., the Helsinki Declaration), the other to guest workers of digital autocracies who have almost no rights at all. We illustrate our argument by drawing on 57 interviews conducted with microworkers in Spanish-speaking countries.

INTRODUCTION: Female sexual health and female sexual dysfunction (FSD) are usually poorly diagnosed and treated because of the numerous barriers providers and patients face. Internet platforms, such as mobile applications (apps) are potential tools that help overcome these barriers and improve patient access to education and management options for FSD. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this review was to identify existing applications on female sexual health and evaluate their educational content and services. METHODS: We searched the internet and Apple App Store using multiple keywords. A panel of physicians specialized in the treatment of FSD reviewed the apps for content quality, the scientific basis of provided information, interactivity, usability, and whether they would recommend it as a reference tool for patients. RESULTS: Of the 204 apps identified, 17 met the inclusion criteria and were reviewed further. The selected apps were organized into groups based on common themes such as educational (n = 6), emotions and communication (n = 2), relaxation and meditation (n = 4), general sexual health (n = 2), and social and fun (n = 3). All apps from the educational category provided scientific information in collaboration with health experts. When assessed for usability, 1 app received good and 5 received excellent scores based on the System Usability Scale. Most apps (n = 5) provided information on pathology and treatments of orgasmic dysfunction, but only 1 app, created by a physician, provided comprehensive information on all the types of FSD. CONCLUSION: Digital technology could be an effective way to overcome barriers to accessing information and ultimately care for female sexual health. Our review demonstrated that there is still a need for more accessible educational resources addressing female sexual health and FSD for patients and providers.

Social media platforms, as a particular species of digital platforms offering multiple online services and electronic commerce opportunities, have been under increasing scrutiny by competition enforcement agencies in recent years for engaging in allegedly anticompetitive practices. These technology giants have also come under fire for their role in facilitating various anti-social practices that have sowed societal discord and conflict in many different jurisdictions. In this paper, we examine the reasons why undertakings operating in this particular sector of the digital economy have managed to acquire such an exceptional species of "digital dominance" that makes them particularly challenging targets for competition authorities to rein in using conventional competition law frameworks. We then argue that, in light of the conceptual and practical difficulties of relying on competition law enforcement as the primary mechanism to address the problems associated with the behaviour of social media platforms, policymakers should focus their attention instead on tailor-making sector-specific ex ante regulatory frameworks that are better equipped to address the different public and private interests that need to be balanced against each other when evaluating the conduct of these particular digital ecosystems.

Digitalization has facilitated the improvement of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Firms develop their internal skills to deal with external challenges stemming from the digitalization process and the COVID-19 crisis. Founded on the dynamic capability view, our paper empirically tests how firms utilize their digital and creative capabilities to improve their performance during the pandemic and promote their corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. The study conducted a two-step analysis. First, the data from 151 enterprises in Vietnam was collected and analyzed qualitatively to understand their digital capabilities and export performance. Then, the Smart PLS version 3 was utilized to analyze extended quantitative data of 329 SMEs in various industries. This study contributes to the theories of dynamic capability with the implications of developing digital and creative capabilities to enhance performance and CSR differentiation strategy in dealing with external challenges, especially in global pandemics. Firm performance plays a mediating role in the relationship between capabilities and CSR differentiation strategy. Our study also enriches the CSR literature by viewing CSR as firms' achieved targets or voluntary activities instead of as an instrument to boost firm performance. This research provides the background for internationalization researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to face obstacles and overcome barriers, enhance digital and creative capabilities, engage in digital platforms, and benefit from international marketing, international retailing, and CSR activities.

RESUMO

In this paper, I approach the power of digital platforms by using the republican concept of domination. More specifically, I argue that the traditional, agent-relative interpretation of domination, in the case of digital domination, is best supplemented by a more radical version, on which republicans ought to give priority to structural elements. I show how radical republicanism draws attention to (1) the economic rationales and the socio-technical infrastructures that underlie and support digital platforms and to (2) the forms of influence that are directed at cognitive dimensions, such as habituation and routinisation, which are particularly relevant for the power of digital platforms. These insights also imply that republicans have reason to favour a more structural response to digital platforms over more direct and individualised forms of control that fit with a 'standard' republican approach, such as securing exit options and requiring user consent.

This data article describes the dataset of the project "edDIT: Technological corporations, digital educational platforms and guarantee of children's rights with a gender approach". This study has analysed the impact of the use of corporate digital platforms in public schools in Catalonia. A series of data were collected through an online survey, with a total sample of 2347 parents/caregivers. The description of the data contained in this article is divided into two main parts. The first one is a descriptive analysis of all the items included in the survey and has been carried out using tables and figures. The second one refers to the construction of scales. Three scales were constructed and included in the data set: 'Opinions about Educational Digital Platforms', 'Concerns about the use of the data generated on the utilisation of the digital platform' and 'Parental Engagement'. The scales were created using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Multigroup Confirmatory Analysis (MG-CFA). This dataset will be relevant for researchers in different fields, in particular for those interested in digital inclusion public policies and educational policies.

E-commerce saw a paradigm shift during COVID. Consumers turned to online shopping when pandemic lockdowns caused brick-and-mortar stores to shut for extended periods. Although the pandemic drove more buyers online, it had negative impacts that affected e-commerce performance. This study assesses both positive and negative impacts and their relative significance. The findings are then used to prioritize different strategies for e-commerce development in four vibrant Middle Eastern economies: United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait. The study employs a hybrid approach incorporating grey analytical hierarchy process (GAHP) and grey relational analysis (GRA). The GAHP evaluates the relative significance of impacts, whereas the GRA ranks the strategies. The study is based on the responses from 36 local e-commerce specialists. The findings revealed that the supply chain disruption was a rather significant factor, and that "expanding supplier base" was a top-ranked strategy. The study suggests that increasing market share of e-commerce will necessitate the improvement of the supply chains, including the expansion of the supply base, as well as the establishment of sustainable supply chains. In addition to that, the moment has come to implement meaningful changes, such as digital transformation of supply chains, in order to fulfil customer expectations.

Alongside established heritage institutions, family historians are central figures in the ecosystem of digital heritage, both as contributors to and users of digitized historical sources. With that in mind, this research aims for a wide examination of family historians' engagement with the broader selection of available digital platforms, providing knowledge about how and why they choose to use one platform over another. This knowledge is important for the future development of sustainable digital platforms in the heritage sector. With a large variety of digitized source providers, many with free access platforms, Denmark and Danish family historians make an excellent case for this study. Through both a questionnaire and focus group interviews, using a grounded theory approach, this study has developed a model of engagement with digital platforms, referred to as a buffet model. This model illustrates how family historians pick and choose from a selection of digital platforms throughout their search and management of information as well as their community interaction. Moreover, through the lens of the Serious Leisure Perspective we find that family history is often a life-long leisure activity and family historians' usage of digital platforms support this finding.

RESUMO

Should academics collaborate with social media and gaming companies to identify and reduce mental health impacts on children and young people? While opinions on this question sharply diverge within the academic community, in practice collaboration is already widespread. As digital platforms increasingly dominate the time and attention of many young people and are the source of both considerable concern as well as offering innovative opportunities for beneficial interventions, researchers are recognising the potential for collaboration to accelerate positive impact. However, concerns over the independence and transparency of collaborative research have received little institutional or collective response. Recognising both the promise and the pitfalls, this debate article calls for multidisciplinary deliberation within the academy to support the co-development of clear guidelines on the principles and processes by which collaboration is best undertaken, as well as the basis for ensuring that some research remains independent.

Food waste is one of the main obstacles to transitioning to sustainable and circular food systems. Food waste-reducing platforms (FWRPs) have emerged as low-cost alternatives by donating or commercializing surpluses and non-commercial food. However, as a recent phenomenon, little is known about their actual contribution to the fight against food waste. This study aims to employ a systematic review of the literature to understand the main issues of FWRPs. Our results indicate that technology plays multiple roles in FWRPs: enabling the sharing of surpluses by connecting supply and demand, monitoring and generating data on waste, among others. However, technology is insufficient for food recovery. FWRPs' business models must be aligned with the sustainability concept, encompassing environmental, economic and social benefits. Innovators must design and prototype solutions to address these various intended functions. This study points out many barriers to implementing these digital platforms, such as delivering multiple benefits for heterogeneous actors. Other barriers involve building trust and changing the behaviour of actors concerning their food habits. The scarcity of empirical studies has limited a better understanding of FWRPs and their actual ability to tackle food waste on a large scale. Despite the limitations found in the literature, digital platforms are an interesting solution to food waste management by promoting food waste prevention and reduction strategies at the source.

Resumo: Este artigo propõe-se a analisar o recente fenômeno do crowdsourcing, que se apresenta como um novo estatuto mistificador entre a terceirização e a informalidade, a partir da ação coletiva. Trata-se de uma massa humana que não atua sob a lógica fragmentada da ação individual, mas em conformidade com o coletivo. Sua existência está subordinada ao intenso uso de tecnologias informacionais, sendo as plataformas digitais o lócus privilegiado de seu desenvolvimento, além de possibilitar a inserção de usuários e consumidores e de atividades laborais invisíveis.


Abstract: This article aims to analyze the recente phenomenon of crowdsourcing, which presentes itself as a new mystifying status between outsourcing and informality, based on collective action. It is a human mass that does not act under the fragmented logic of individual action, but of a colletive whole. Its existence is subordinated to the intense use of informational Technologies. With digital plataforms being the privileged locus of its development, in addition to enabling the insertion of users and consumers and invisble work activities.
